Hello from a
very rainy Plockton.
8th It is a bank holiday weekend and the
village is busy. I’ve had two couples
staying and the guests from Aberdeen have braved the weather stoically, knowing
that at home it is lovely. Maaike and
Robin from Holland found Heron’s Flight and I was delighted!
In two weeks
it’ll be Whit and from then my diary is, as usual, busy. And on the 22 May I’ll drive through to
Inverness to meet the train on which Ian and Alison have travelled from
Edinburgh. They begin their round the
world adventure tomorrow – leaving Brisbane en route to Paris, via Singapore.
I’m hoping
that the next few days dry up, so really necessary garden chores, here and at
35 Harbour Street, can get done. I’ll
let you know!
12th And sure enough the weather has improved a
good bit and the gardens are looking better – all but the front lawn here as I
have spot weed killed the many dandelions (NEVER killed before when we had
tortoises!) and must wait some days before mowing. If this treatment works I may have a black
polka dot lawn……
I have had
three young ladies staying. Yesterday
their car broke down at the point of Ness on the Isle of Skye and this morning
we are waiting for a breakdown vehicle to arrive to take car plus occupants to
Inverness, where a replacement will be ready.
They came “home” last night by the same method, assuring me that travel
in a breakdown truck is comfortable - medal deserved for no complaints,
ladies!!
26th
– Time has galloped on and I do not know where it has gone! It has been a very busy, enjoyable time with
friendly guests coming and going and then the arrival of Ian and Alison.
I wish I
could say that the weather has been marvellous.
We’ve had the odd very good day and they have been surrounded by very
mixed, cool weather – a few days ago it was not cool – perishing cold with hail
stones bouncing about six inches in the air!
On Saturday
there were two events on - a row from Eilean Donan Castle to Plockton. That is a distance of over sixteen miles. It was hard for the teams of four plus cox
but the first boat was over the line in less than three hours. Kathleen MacRae and I were starter and
timekeeper – good fun!
Then there
was an open day with the local gardens and several groups walked through here -
though flowers are few and far between yet.
Ian and Alison manned the house as I was busy with boats. Saranna C was in the row and finished well.
Today
threatens to brighten and I hope so for all the visitors around. Ian and Alison really do not mind! They do see plenty of sunshine at home in
Toowoomba. It is marvellous to have them
at Heron’s Flight.
Perhaps one
day you will visit? I’d like that.
